It's hard for me to believe it's been an entire year since we purchased this place. Seems like yesterday, but when I think back over all that we have done and all that has happened, it seems like forever. Over the next few days I'll try to fill you in on all the highlights, but for now just look at the photo and see how happy we looked. *snicker* It was going to be an adventure, and so it has.

Your place is gorgeous - and your blog looks good too. What is that bush in the foreground? And can I have it?
It's one big honkin' hydrangea. Most likely has been there for 100 years. I'd be happy to sit on the porch and watch you try to dig that sucker up. LOL
I will watch too and...then... take a start !!!
I never thought I would actually see one of these still in existence, it is a Colt two-part gravity-fed carbide to water acetylene gas machine. Pretty much fully automatic. The tank on the left is the generator & the little turret on top contained a supply of calcium carbide broken into small pieces. The bottom of that tank held water. The right hand tank was the gas storage unit. It also held water and worked very much like a modern well pressure tank. The little cylinder on the right side of that tank is a filter.
These units were generally installed in the basement. I guess Mrs K didn't want anything to do with that, understandably so.
Neat!
