Tour de Fleece Challenge

I am so close to winning this thing I can taste the champaign!  I am on Team My Favorite Sheep this year. For those who don't know, the Tour de Fleece is a spinning challenge on Ravelry that occurs every year during the Tour de France. Each day the cyclists run, so do the spinners. Just like a lot of the cyclists each spinner is really only competing against their own personal best. My goal this year is to finish spinning the mountain of Shetland/mohair I purchased from Under the Son Farm many moons ago so that I can weave it into a throw. That ball of roving on the right is all I have left to spin. Ignore that wad of single ply next to it. That was one of those 5,000 school children watching me spin on the great wheel days. I grabbed it and RAN for my life at 5:00 p.m. without using the ball winder. (Seriously it was only a matter of time before they realized they had us outnumbered.)

I know I am going to finish this, but I am running into an obstacle. The motion used to wind the plied yarn onto the niddy noddy makes my shoulder sting, my face cringe and my mouth say bad words. I may need to buy some more bobbins for my wheel to store them on.

Kim, we should plan a day during the tour for a spin in at my place.

I would love that!

I'm available to help but you'd have to train me first.

Oh no! I didn't spin it all this week! This has been in the works since last summer.

Go, go, go! The finish line is in sight (and it's beautiful)! So glad Kim can come help you out; I'm a little too far away. :-/

Good for you setting such a goal - - but don't hurt yourself. Victory isn't always worth that recovery time. But it does sound like fun that you all are doing it as a group - - even though you are only trying to "best" yourself.

I'm so happy Kim can come and help you. Just put out the word!! I purchased a fleece from Theresa at Under the Son Far and it is definitely a delight to spin.

That's awesome, but don't buy more bobbins - buy a skeiner!

Good heavens! Fascinating! You are the very first person I have met that spins!
I want to thank you SO very much for stopping by my blog and leaving such a dear comment! It came at a time when I needed to hear exactly what you said.
I must not lose you..I want to learn more about what you do. The first thing I've learned is that as much as you might enjoy it, spinning is WORK and not always easy physically!
You made me smile this morning..

Oh dear, I wrote a long comment and it has disappeared. I hope it went to you. I had trouble with proving I was not a robot.
