Adding Insult to Injury

Yesterday, The Golden Girls wouldn’t come out of the barn. They didn’t care for ice skating at all. So the kid and I went to work with a pick axe to remove the ice in front of the doors and gates. Then we spread some straw for added traction to allow them to get to the water and to make chore time a little safer for us. The sheep appreciated it and spent the afternoon outside. Last night when it was time for bed they greeted me at the gate. (No Rose isn’t pregnant she’s just, um, fluffy.)

“Did you bring cookies,” asked Daisy?

“Of course,” I replied. “Come on everybody let’s go inside.”

“Quick! She’s going down. Grab the cookies,” I heard them say.

“Save some for me,” squealed Bo.

At least the straw makes for a soft landing.

Today it is snowing. It is expected to snow all week. If you are reading this and you live somewhere where there is no ice or snow on the ground and it is above freezing right now, please leave a link to your local realtor in the comment section. Thank  you.

Oh gosh Christine, you poor thing! Hope you are not too banged up!! You need to come on out here to Phoenix and visit me until the ice is gone back there!! I do get homesick spending the winters here with but I don't mess that ice and snow and cold stuff!
Keep on your feet!

Let me know where you're moving to!! I'm right there with ya' sista'. Congratulations... you were the first one to make me chuckle today. Stay warm and stay upright :)

A link from here in the frozen tundra won't do you any good, in fact if you move south your place would be like Florida to us!

I understand your predicament, we have to go out today and chisel away ice and snow so we can open our gates as well.

Nothing creates a goat stampede better than loose treats.

You're more than welcome to join me here in balmy Minnesota but I doubt that will bring you much relief. ;-)

I'm thinking perhaps a pair of those studded, chain thingies that one puts on over their boots might be a good idea. Either that or delegate chores!

(hugs)

Hi Christine,
It's not much better here--no ice, but 11 + inches of snow and all manner of stupid things going wrong.

Last night it started snowing again (another 2-3 inches) and I just wanted to weep.

But today the sun is shinning and it helps the spirit anyway.

hang in there. (p.s.--I love the peanut gallery off there in the background (sheepies)...no telling what their comments were.)

You poor thing! I live on the West coast - Portland - and you can get some property realllly cheap..just go to www.rmls.com and pick Oregon, and a zip code of 97213 or chose a high school....:o)

I LOVE the goats!

The ice and snow missed us here in Pittsburgh, but it's been cold and cloudy for years now. I just keep trying to remind myself that in 4 months I'll be melting in the heat. It doesn't help much, but it keeps me marginally sane.
Freezing rain forecast for this afternoon and evening. *sigh*

It's 46 degrees here currently, with an expected high of 50 today. The birds are chirping, the frogs are croaking and, when I looked outside yesterday, I saw that the tips of my daffodils have started to emerge from the ground. I'm telling you this because I didn't see ANY mention in your post just now of that new helmet you are supposed to be wearing when you go outside. Move west or don helmet. Those appear to me to be your only two options, at this point, for maintaining your health and safety.

I am remembering years ago when it got to be April 1st, after which we normally don't have snow, and someone came into work and said her little girl had looked out the window, seen it was snowing, and started to cry.

i had to laugh a little bit then (sorry, I'm not really heartless), but I am not laughing too much now.

I also am starting to think, what if summer never comes.

I think we all need a good dose of Vitamin D. Maybe if we sat under a sun lamp we'd feel better. At least there would be enough light to do some applique ~

It's never good to have a chuckle at another's expense, but I have to admit your post is a hoot. I love the swarm of goats above you! It seems like everything is turning to ice now, which is awful.
Stay safe in the barnyard!

I love that you have your priorities straight - taking photos for us even while slipping on the ice. Hope nothing is hurt other than your pride. We are sick of this weather, too. Stayed home for three days, finally tried to venture out to the store yesterday and got into a fender bender four blocks from home. Wake me when it's spring.

hmmm Well we are in the same boat you are!Lol.. Of course I didnt go down when the goats tried to knock me down though.. Spring is not far.. Hopefully!

Bless you for getting out there and taking care of your kids. I'm sure they appreicate you. Even if they don't take the time to say so!
Stay warm. We're in Bloomington and getting much the same weather. I did get to walk 2 miles last night and 3 today. Took Chelsea with me. It was good to move even if we were slipping and sliding and slopping along. Stay warm! XO, Cheryl

Raising my hand here in NC!!! We were in the 50's today. We do get snow some years... but it goes away by itself. (Has to--we don't have snow plows.)

Your sheep are SO cute! I have a cocker that is fluffy like Rose.

My Indianapolis daughter has sent pictures of the ice. I think they have all fallen during this siege. YOWSAH! We won't be visiting them for awhile.

Seattle anywhere in Western Washinton will do if you don't like snow, ice and extream cold. Although you need to like rain.

Thank to the sheep being there to help you 'get up' and relieve you of the unnecessary weight of the 'cookies'! We had to spread sand all over the driveway to get out yesterday. So from Nova Scotia to Indiana winter is happening.

Well, I'd invite you to Florida but it's been raining non-stop for two days. So much for Chamber of Commerce days! I'm with Nancy K., get some of those stud things for your boots!

i will have to stick with Florida...southern west coast of Florida! rained here today and no sunshine YET! but we needed it. you won't move - cause you love it on your Front Porch in Indiana. we only have 2 1/2 acres so your animals won't fit here.

You must be somewhere a bit south of here. I have never seen ice this thick here - ever. It's supposed to be above freezing so maybe we can chip out the other half of the driveway. We found sand is a good thing to use to help get some traction. I love your wool; it's just gorgeous.

I am so sorry it's snowing again! I'm dreadfully tired of it myself, but we'll be glad of the well-watered ground when the gardens go in. Soooonnnnnnnn.
