Creative Farming Practices

Farmers have always been problem solvers. From the very beginning back when they cleared the land of trees and pulled rocks out of the fields to modern day situations such as how to prevent a goat getting their horns stuck in a fence.

I conducted a facility check of a farm today for Southeast Llama Rescue. The potential adoptive parents had an interesting solution for the notorious goat/fence problem. That is a piece of PVC pipe and some pink duct tape (it’s a girl).  I thought if only they used one of those giant dog bones instead of the PVC she’d look just like Pebbles on the Flintstones.

That is so smart and original. I love goats.

Hahaha, good idea! And I'd swear the other one is just squatting to pee!

Christine, if I'd only known about that growing up. It would have saved me countless times I had to get a goat out of a fence!

Not sure how this works?

We did that to a couple of pygmy goats that we had a few years ago. My son got tired of helping me get them out of the fence. My husband came up with the idea. It worked too. LOL

What a hoot! Love the pink duct tape! I'd think the other goat might be nibbling on it?? Cute goats.

Interesting idea!

Karen Anne, it is so big the goat can't fit their head inside the fence therefor it can't get stuck.

Interesting. Very interesting. lol

Excellent! Did they have any solutions to stop fence jumping goats? I'm considering an ankle ball and chain at this point! She clears 6 foot fences!

Ah, I didn't realize their whole head went through the fence. I was picturing the head outside the fence with a horn stuck. Thanks :-)

What a great idea! I did not know you volunteered for the llama rescue, no wonder you have your two new girls! Good for you!

All farmers know that duct tape is the first tool to reach for or else baling twine! Didn't know duct tape was available in colors. My tool box is obviously lacking pizzazz.
