Getting Warped

There are three looms at Billie Creek Village. All three have been abandoned by weavers past and are in a sad state of affairs. Every time I’ve met a weaver I’d ask them if they would be willing to warp them for us. They generally look at me like a third eyeball popped out between my other two then explain that they’re kind of busy or blah, blah, blah. After that when I’d see them on the street they would cross in front of oncoming traffic in order to avoid me. I never understood why until today.

Today I came. I saw. I warped.

The wonderful folks down at Sheep Street Fibers let me crash one of their weaving classes. I helped loom owners get warped. hee, hee

Given the difficulty and tediousness of the process I find it truly amazing we’re not all running around naked as jaybirds. It HAD to have been the need for warmth to prevent death that possessed people to perfect this skill. Personally, I think it would have been easier to move to Florida. No wonder those weavers are avoiding me like the plague.

I’m heading out to the Village tomorrow to attempt some loom warping. If you don’t hear from me for a few days would someone please stop by with some food and water? I’ll most likely be tangled up in the madness and cannot break free.

Cripes, you're too funny. I'm steadfastly holding myself back from weaving. It's hard though! Especially when you spin your own yarn. We'll send scouts if we don't hear from you soon!

This is precisely the reason I have no interest in weaving as another hobby. It just all looks so fiddly and tedious! I'll stick to my spinning and knitting, which are both MUCH more portable and far less space-intensive, and leave the warping headaches to YOU!

I'd volunteer my BFF if we lived closer. She's been weaving for years. I'm afraid I'd be like you, all twisted. LOL!

Keep us posted.

When I was fighting the weaving fumes, I tried to concentrate on all those warp threads as a way to squash the desire. It only worked for a little while. It's all part of the process. I'll come searching for you if we don't hear anything.

You're not warped, you're just artistic. A very fine line indeed

What time are you going to be there? Also, I don't remember where the looms were. If I get my chores done, I might stop by.

Once you start actually weaving you'll understand why anyone would get "warped"! Theresa

Oh, it ain't that bad. I don't mind it one bit. And as Theresa said, once you start weaving you'll forget about the labor pains ;-).
