The Time Has Come

The barn has a new roof. The hay is stacked and ready. The chicken coop is cleaner than the house. It’s time. The final fall prep is to trim hooves and get the girls ready for winter. By that I mean trimming their derriere a little to prevent dung tags, which can look pretty gross.

I asked Laverne, “Wouldn’t you like a nice pedicure and bikini wax? All the young girls are doing it.”

DSC_6568 She then turned and asked Sophia, “What is a bikini wax?”

Sophia replied and then Laverne turned back to me and said, “Try it and die.”

Looks like I’m not going in again without that helmet.

You are a nut. I'm trying to decide on a proper blog award for you. There's got to be one out there ;-D.

Yep, we are doing the same thing this weekend. This will be our first time trimming up sheep hooves and spot wool locations.

I've never heard of "trimming the derrieres" on the sheep in the fall. I do it (occassionally) in the spring ~ before lambing ~ but it's not a bad idea.

I'm thinking one of those padded vests that a baseball catcher uses might be a good idea before you approach Laverne...

I dont do a kidding clip till right before or after kidding.. Depending how on schedule they are with kidding. But they sure do not care for it at all!!

I don't plan to trim them all, but I have two that are cow-hocked that get a little ripe without a few snips hear and there if you know what I mean.

Take backup. I think you need a couple of burley bodyguards to flank you. :-)
