Calling All Weavers

So, last summer, I dragged home a heap of counterbalance loom parts that I found stored inside a shed. I painstakingly reassembled and refurbished it.

It has sat there, unused, ever since. See, I warped it and tied it up the best I could, based on what I could find on the internet, but I still cannot get a shed. I mean, none. Something is seriously askew.

The lamms are only attached on one side, unlike several I’ve seen online. Where on earth do I go to get more information on tying up a counterbalance loom? If I can’t get this figured out, I’m going to have to cut my losses and write up a craigslist ad titled, Counterbalance Loom ISO Smarter Loom Owner.

Is there a Ravelry group that might be able to help? What about one of the Interweave forums? The best thing about looms, there IS an answer.

It looks beautiful .... maybe one of the companies that makes looms would have info ??? Good Luck, Ravelry sounds like a good start also. I do know someone that has a collection of looms, maybe she would have a clue.

Try this...

They also note a book title that you may find helpful.

I can't imagine getting as far as you have! I would have taken one look at the pile of loom pieces and kept right on walking...

Good Luck, I suspect you will succeed!

Christine,
Weavingtoday.com has a forum for questions. They might be a source of help, too.

Your patience is amazing. I would have used it as abonfire...which is why there are no looms in my house. I prefer to buy from talented folks like you

Congrats on the loom! I have a Glimakra countermarche, but all the info I've received from them has been extremely helpful. Christine's link should be useful. You might also join Weavolution. Kinda like Ravelry, but for weavers. :)

A long time ago my husband and I had a fiber arts book publishing business. We published a book called Warping All By Yourself by Cay Garrett.
There are used copies for sale on Amazon and other places. It is really good.

Your loom is a countermarche and not a counterbalance. The frames (harnesses) must be tied to rise and lower - 2 x no. of ties. Any onfo on the Glimakra or Louet would be useful as they are countermarche. Also look it up on the internet as I have found info there.

Back again! For the tie-up for a contermarche loom go to "leighs fiber journal" Mon Oct 27/08. You can also click on weaving in the right column and then click on countermarche.

Me again! Forgot to mention that before you do the tie-ups, you should put a small warp on the loom. The warp going thru the eyes should be horizontal so that the pullies (top)lift it the same distance as the lamms (bottom). Good luck. You will like it once you get it going.
