This Week is National Photo Organization Week

Okay not really, I made that up. I spent all day yesterday cleaning up and organizing my photo files. I am ashamed to admit I’d been leaving them here, there, and everywhere; my laptop, an external hard drive, an old desktop pc. I thought it would take an afternoon. I realize now it will be more like a week. But in the end I will hopefully be able to find things AND have everything backed up with a system in place to continue said organization and replication. I am very hopeful.

In the mean time, look at the buried treasure I found; my dad feeding a goat in his underwear while laundry dried on the clothesline in front of the outhouse. LOVE it.

Cool picture!
Doggone it -- now I have no excuse not to keep organizing. Thanks for sharing, it helps me get going on the same thing.

How are Thelma and the new girls getting along?

I have about twenty shoe boxes of photos that need organizing.

Does anyone know of an archivally safe (i.e. no bleeding of ink through to the front) way of writing on these who the people, etc. are? Or some safe label for the back?

I don't want to try to get all these into scrapbooks, but I want to label them so that future generations don't stare at them with Why no label? or Who is insert-first-name-here as I do with some of the older photos.

p.s. At least my "shoe boxes" are actually archivally safe boxes.

OMG, what a great picture!!!!!

Yep, organizing pictures seems to be on everybody's mind these days. Let me caution all of you to make sure you have ALL your pictures stored in more than one place. I thought I had done that but discovered that some important pictures just weren't to be found. Thankfully, we hadn't gotten rid of the non-working computer they were on. Took them to the tech who removed the hard drive and then transferred the pictures to an external drive for me. Oh, they were the last pictures I had of Mama and her aunt before they died a few weeks later. And my sister's 50th wedding anniversary celebration. (Sorry for being windy.)

Karen Anne, there is a archive safe pen that you can purchase at most scrapbooking stores or any craft store that sells scrapbooking supplies. I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.

I *LOVE* that picture! What a precious little bit of the past with your dad!

I'm starting to get a complex from reading about your major organization projects -- it's putting me to shame (and this is exactly the right time to do them, while there's no garden to tend to)!

Cute photo. Here's a tip if you're scanning old black & white photos, set your scanner to scan in greyscale, that will eliminate any discoloration that may be present.
