I Went to See a Man About a Dog

Growing up, my Dad was a master of the the euphemism. It took me forever to figure out that when he said he was "going to see a man about a dog" he wasn't really going to see a man about a dog. In fact, he was taking a leak. Yet another euphemism. It's a wonder I don't need therapy.

Anyhoo, today I went to see a man about a dog. Only I really did go see a man about a dog. Not just any ol' dog. A beautiful little 3 1/2 month old Great Pyrenees girl (little being a relative term).

It's the logical next step in our fiber farm plans. The sheep and chickens have been safe in their arrangement so far. But we had an experience listening to the sounds of a pack of dogs not to long ago that made the hairs on our heads stand on end. Harvest time will be coming soon and that will bring out the coyotes in droves.

I'm going to sleep better at night knowing Willa is on duty. Willamina in German means The Diligent Guardian.

She left behind an angora goat and peacocks as sleeping companions. But I have no doubt in time she'll find someone to snuggle up with here. She's already staked her boundaries and let everyone know that she's the new Head Farm Dog in Charge. I'm in love. It's going to be hard to let her do her job and not love on her too much.

OMG!!! She is gorgeous. The girls think she is wonderful. BTW - the breed will continually try and expand their territory. If you haven't microchipped and tagged her, please do so soon. And if she is like my baby, she will be competing with the dueling roosters in the noise making division. Still wouldn't trade mine for the world. Have you noticed her extra toes?

She is the cutest Head Dog I've ever seen! And I would have the same issue - too much lovin'! She doesn't look big enough to take on a pack of dogs or a coyote. I know she'll get HUGE later, but how big is she now?

My DD just got a new puppy - an Australian Shepherd to herd the goats and the chickens. He's adorable too!

She IS adorable! I love puppies, they are so much fun. Our Skipper looks full grown but he's still a pup. I laugh at him all the time, he's such a goof-ball. I'm worried about the coyotes too. Hopefully Skipper and Buddy will keep them away.

She's beautiful!!! If you don't already have it, it was recommended that I get Livestock Protection Dogs by Orysia Dawydiak and David Sims. It has been very helpful.

Very cute and awesome! Three months is a perfect age to start the learning and bonding process. Congratulations on the new addition!

After yesterday's post I wondered if you were going to see a man about a dog.:) What a funny story about your dad.
Willa is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm sure she'll protect the farm well.

She is beautiful. I have thought of a LSG dog many times. Just not sure I could get it to work with the German Shorthair Pointers. My DH thinks they bark enough. They woke up us at 4:00 to let us know the local pack were near by, and we let them out to push them back and keep them moving on their way through. We followed and made sure everyone was okay. New meaning to counting your sheep so you can sleep, speaking of expressions. Someday though I will might have to get one, I will be interested to see how it goes for you.
