Things Always Get Better

It would be easy to reflect back on this decade and become rather depressed. It's been one heck of a wild ride that's for sure. I don't know about you but I'm ready to get off now. It has been a decade of great loss. I believe my generation has been particularly affected by the shattering of our rose colored glasses.

This decade has been one of a great personal loss for me as well. Job losses, watching dear friends struggle to make ends meet, my own struggling personal relationships and losing many loved ones including my father. For a Daddy's girl there could be no greater loss.

But one of the things he taught me that I remember most is that "things always get better." No matter how bad life gets, no matter how dim the outlook seems to be, if you look back through history or reflect on your own life things always got better. Eventually. It might get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

It's time. I have to believe that. This decade has served as a valuable learning experience for many. We should have no regrets, but instead look forward to the future. Here's to a new year and a new decade. Because things always get better.

Cheers!

Can I ask what generation you fit into to? I am 58 and I have sure felt the losses this past 10 years. For me many family members too. Thank you for sharing an upbeat attitude and soon we will see brighter days. :)

Christine, I'm sorry about the loss of your father. I lost mine 13 years ago on Jan. 29th. I, too, was a daddy's girl. I still miss him, so I know how you feel. I hoping for a better year in 2010, that is for sure. Winona

I think things get better for those who want them to get better and for whose who believe in change for the better. Dads are very special people and I just don't know what I will do without mine. Surrounding oneself with those with positive attitudes like yourself makes a world of difference also:) Cheers to you also!

I think 2009 was a very hard year for me as well. My sister then 4 weeks later my only son passed away.

Every New Year's Day morning, I sit at the edge of my bed to contemplate the new year. I breath deeply and let go of the past year. Things always seem to get better from there on.

This year I wrote about my dad's life and passing on an entry in my Hidden Acres Studio blog. It made me feel more calm about his absence.

I hope for you a healthy and Happy New Year. Cheers ~ Conny

Since we can't change the past, and what happened is just that, let us all look to making the next decade the best we have ever hoped for. Thank you for your wonderful blog and sharing a little part of yourself with us.
Sending New Year Blessings and Dreams,
Michelle

Happy New Year to you and many positive blessings!

I'm at a real cross roads in my life and wrote about it a little in my blog tonight. I will move forward, it will be OK and I will be exactly where I am suppose to be, like it or not! My attitude is that it will all be good.

I lost my dad in November, 2008. I was the baby, a daddy's girl who looked so much like him. What a blessing I had such wonderful parents. Boy, do I appreciate them.

I agree, this decade has been hard. I also lost my dad, 8 years ago, so I know how you feel. Here's to the next ten years and things getting better!

I'm going to agree with you that things will get better - where two or more agreee, right? I lost both my parents in this last decade, four months apart. Hard, really hard. But part of God's plan. And I know He's a better planner than me. blessings, marlene
