The other day when I posted the pictures of my craft room at the top of the stairs, Karen Anne commented that she always wished she had one that had a small sofa and some bookshelves. It just so happens I have one of those, too.
You see, this old house has two staircases. The craft room is at the top of the back stairway and this little reading nook is at the top of the front one. I was going to wait until I had cleaned and organized it before posting pictures, but realized at the rate things are going around here that might be awhile.
When we moved in I had immediate plans to recover the cushions and pillows. I made the pillow in the corner and then proceeded to get sidetracked. Four years later this is another project that still needs finishing. So I’ve added it to my 2011 Mission Organization Master Plan. More on that later. Anyhoo, this bench just happens to have storage under those cushions, which I am planning to use for clean fleeces. Of course that is one more thing on the Master Plan, to actually clean those fleeces, but I digress.
The bench until now had been storing even more books. Books that we can’t seem to part with. Another item on the get organized list is adding another bookcase and getting the books off the floor. But again the 2011 Mission Organization Master Plan is a very long post for another day. Right now I need to get back to working the plan.

What a wonderful old house you must have! I grew up in a house with front and back stairs, but we had no wonderful nook for reading, or I would have used it daily. We did have a radiator on the landing, where coats and gloves were laid out to warm and dry after sledding. I love the look of the reading nook and pillows.
And look at that woodwork! Sigh.
What an adorable little bench...it's sooo inviting!
I don't find those rooms awkward at all - they're wonderful!! Oh to have all that room....room for a craft space and room for a "library"/reading nook. Modern houses may have larger closets, but not that kind of space. I would use the floor in one for drying fleeces!
wow, I too love this lil spot. I bet your home is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing your lil nook with us!! LA
Wow! I love this little nook, and that woodwork is awesome!
I hope you share that Mission Organization Plan, I could use some help in that area.
I love that corner bench! Old homes have such great character. Oh, I have to do something about all my books too! Thank you for your kind words on my blog, it is appreciated:)
Ohmygosh, you have a reading nook! And look at all that light! Oooh, it's lovely. I like the cushions, too, so if you don't change them, it's ok with me. :-)
And you think that area needs reorganizing? (Have I got a DEN MESS to show you!)
lol
Oh my gosh, I love that little room.
What a beautiful spot. I absolutely love old houses.
How long would it take before you noticed I moved in? I am a slob, I admit. But, I am very good with goats. I LOVE your house. But for crying out loud, recover those cushions.
I would love a little area just like this for me NO ONE ELSE
its a lovely home!
You must have a wonderful old house. My house is old, but not wonderful. I'd love to have an old farmhouse with the built in benches and cabinets and beautiful woodwork.
